TITLE : NEW YORKERS
SERIES
AUTHOR : XIMENA ECHAGÜE
In the vibrant and ever-evolving streets of New York City, a world of endless photographic possibilities unravels before the lens of street photographers. From the iconic avenues of Manhattan to the eclectic neighborhoods of Brooklyn, the city breathes life into each frame, offering a captivating tapestry of diversity and raw human experiences. In the midst of the chaotic rhythm of pedestrians, honking taxis, and towering skyscrapers, street photographers find their muse in the unscripted moments that reveal the essence of New York’s soul. The city’s kaleidoscope of cultures, fashion, art, and urban landscapes presents an abundant playground for those seeking to capture the fleeting magic of everyday life, transforming fleeting moments into everlasting visual stories.
This is how Ximena Echagüe tells us about her work:
“America has been a freedom utopia for many, and New York has always been the door to it. Some come in search of their American dream, others escaping misery and war. Some have just arrived; others have been here for decades. They all bring their illusions and suffer their frustrations. They struggle to survive and some even prosper, all of them showing creativity and originality.
Different streams flowing into an always-evolving great river. They keep coming, from all over the world and other parts of America; thousands converging every day into the great city. They become performers in the NY circus. Even the pandemic could not hold them down, as they are resilient beyond belief.
This series seeks to portray real New Yorkers in action, showing their energy and self-image. Together, in their sheer diversity, they form the soul of this great city. “
