TITLE : ASSENZE (ABSENCES)
SERIES
AUTHOR : GIUSEPPE BASTA

The photographer Giuseppe Basta portrayed the Italian countryside looking for the absence.

A work that confirms once again that when taking landscape photos not only what appears counts but also what is intuited and the state of mind of the photographer who takes them.

The pictures invite you to look beyond the surface of things, in order to discover their deepest essence, to dwell on the absence of life and overall to find the “presence beyond the absence”.

The shots have been taken in places used and adapted to humans needs, where the current human absence evokes asense of deep nostalgia, an element very dear to the author.

Ordinary, uninhabited and apparently anonymous landscapes, in which the total lack of the human component is strongly perceived.

The absence generates a sense of emptiness and melancholy, even if the author’s goal is to make the viewer reflect on the perception of the beauty of our daily environment and of what we tend to consider predictable.

The photographer has tried to focus his attention on a few essential elements, in his minimalist style, excluding from the image what appears and feels superfluous to him and paying particular attention to light and composition, creating images that in their simplicity bring up marvel and emotions.

The final intent is to “suggest” and not to describe, to leave to the viewer the ability to be amazed and to imagine a “presence in the absence” relying on his own emotions.
