TITLE : DIVERS
SERIES
AUTHOR : PILAR SILVESTRE

I have always been fascinated by these photos of Pilar Silvestre in the pools of Montjuic, Barcelona. They are very real photos but due to their surreal aesthetics they take me to a place that seems magical to me.

“Divers is a project that I carried out between 2014 and 2015.

A document that shows how children begin to train in the practice of a sport that requires agility, concentration, discipline, coordination and many hours of training but without sacrificing their childhood stage.

The children grew and changed physically. The height of the levers and the difficulty of the jump grew with them.
But they are still those children with a sports spirit who, between games, laughter and camaraderie, fight for their goal of achieving excellence in trampoline jumping.

Today, the Montjuic Swimming Pools have an uncertain future.

That iconic pool from the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games is in danger. The pool has stopped working and diving is no longer performed in it, there does not seem to be any intention to recover it.

Perhaps, unintentionally, I have photographed the latest jumpers who have performed their springboard jumps there.

Perhaps the photo in which the 9 jumpers appear jumping at the same time, which was a cause for celebration, will now become the last photo of jumping taken at the Montjuic Municipal Pool.”
