TITLE : LA QUARTA ROMA (THE FORTH ROME)
SERIES
AUTHOR : MASSIMO VALENTINI
At first glance they might appear to be architectural photos which sometimes run the risk of appearing cold and impersonal. But the photos that Massimo Valentini presents in this series “La Quarta Roma” manage to convey the hard human existence among large buildings.
Marcello Fiori thus describes this work:
Cities tell their stories through their shapes, the infinite grid of streets, buildings, squares, and gardens, statues and lampposts, glimpses of sky and light that enhance the emptiness or emphasize the majesty of certain volumes. An enigmatic theory of details that settles in the memory and finds its reason for being, revealing its meanings. Its stones and memories are held together by a gaze. And Massimo Valentini’s gaze is a particular one, attentive, penetrating, and always pervaded by an unshakable love for this city. Few images like his depict the desperate search for beauty in an era of abandonment and loneliness that the citizens of Rome are experiencing.
