“Qui ci sono i leoni” (“Here are the lions.”).
This was how the maps of ancient Rome indicated the unknown world, the land outside the borders of the Empire.
And the unknown has always been frightening.
Two thousand years later, within the confines of the Eternal City, there exists a controversial territory that still inspires fear in many: the suburbs.
To get an idea of what it’s like to live in these suburbs, you have to enter the courtyards, walk the walkways, stop in the entrance halls, breathe in the smells, listen to the sounds, the voices, observe the plaster and exposed concrete, the
signs of time, the writings on the walls, the graffiti.
This is an excerpt from the first diary that recounts the suburbs of Corviale, Spinaceto, and Laurentino38.
Have a good trip.
