“On a day of heavy rain and rumour, three years ago Queen Elizabeth II died.
I dropped everything and joined the crowds in central London from the first whispers to the funeral 12 days later.
What does it mean to be a street photographer amongst possibly the biggest news story in the world? Where is the line between street photography and documentary? Does it even matter?
Twelve days of trying to work through these questions and how to photograph scenes of the complexity of mourning not just for a woman but maybe for what we as a nation were and might become.”.
About Paul Harrison
I had bought my first camera, still the only camera that I’ve ever bought. Three days to go until the Ebay gamble would be delivered by the postman and I could pluck up the courage to try street photography. Newsflash from the BBC on my phone. People seem to be getting ill due to a mysterious illness in a place in China I’ve never heard of. I’m sure everything will be fine for my holiday to China later in the year.
Oh well…
Since then I’ve been captivated by street photography old and new and seeing the magic in the everyday, with an emphasis on the streets and in art galleries/museums.
I’m honoured that my first zine was published in March 2024 by Bump Books; a collection of street photography from inside London’s art galleries and sold out in less than two weeks. My second zine came out in March 2025 and sold out in half that. I’m still catching my breath.
