TITLE : FEELING THE NIGHT
SERIES
AUTHOR : ANDREW TESDAHL
Andrew Tesdahl’s work manages to convey the essence of these urban spaces in small towns. It’s not the location that matters, but rather the representation of the feelings these places evoke.
“My work focuses on the psychological space of everyday environments, particularly at night. I photograph small towns, empty streets, and transitional spaces where light becomes the defining element. In these moments, familiar places begin to shift—becoming quieter, more ambiguous, and more open to interpretation.
I’m less interested in documenting a location and more interested in how it feels. Light plays a central role in that—isolating details, creating tension, and reshaping the ordinary into something cinematic. A single illuminated window or streetlamp can turn a scene into something that feels both grounded and unreal at the same time.
There’s a subtle push and pull in the work between calm and unease. Some images feel still and reflective, while others carry a sense that something is just out of frame. That tension is intentional. I’m drawn to images that don’t fully resolve—where the viewer has space to project their own memory or narrative into the scene.”
