“A Fragile Utopia” is a great collection of images taken by American photographer Brad Jones.

In this series he documents life in New York, the city where he lives.

It is always interesting to see snapshots taken by people who live in the city and compare them with those taken by those who are just visiting.

The points of view are often different and I personally find both interesting.

In his own words Brad tells us about his series:

“When I’m out shooting I’m always seeking a means of converting chaos into a sort of structure.

Creating a photographic proposal of what this space could look like. I only wish that I could freeze the space in real-time instead, of temporarily making a two-dimensional representation.

Though ultimately, I’m working with the knowledge that reality is much smarter than I am and, is a much better artist.

I’m searching to come to an understanding of the language that the people around me speak either implicitly or explicitly.

And, I know I would be foolish not to appreciate that I exist in an environment of temporarily aligned random fragments of sublime majesty.”

About Brad Jones

Brad Jones was born in Springfield, Missouri, and raised in suburban Memphis, Tennessee, where he studied illustration and photography. He has been working as a photographer in New York in the advertising and film industries for the last 12 years.

In 2015, he began a personal project documenting his annual travels with family between Spain and Puerto Rico in the project called Dos Mundos.

In 2018, he began documenting the details of everyday life in New York City. This became the project A Fragile Utopia. He resides in Brooklyn with his wife and young son.
