I have been following Jose Carpin’s work for years and I believe that with this series he has reached complete maturation.
It is not just a play of lights and colors, these images relax me with a sweet nostalgia.
The summer solstice (‘Solstitium’ in Latin) happens when the sun reaches its highest position in the sky.
Daylight hours lengthen during the day, natural light enlivens the beauty of the streets, and summer begins. “Solstitium” is a project that seeks to photographically redefine the beauty of the world around us in a different, modern and sophisticated way, using two tools: the streets in summer as a canvas, and natural light as a brush.
The aim of this project is to search for transgressive photographic compositions at different times of the day, in order to evocatively encompass all the hours that make up the summer solstice. “Solstitium” is a collection of photographic instants in which light and color are omnipresent protagonists.
“Solstitium” is an award-winning project. Recently, a small series of photographs from the project “Solstitium” was chosen as a Winner of the LensCulture 2023 Photo Awards in the category of best street photography series.
About Jose Carpin
Jose Carpin is a photographer based in Madrid.
His approach is inspired by the effort and desire to reveal and express what his senses feel while he observes everyday life and wanders aimlessly through the streets, in order to show the people the value, beauty and secrets of the world.
